Ask the hotel first
Nobody enters a hotel room without the reception’s agreement. Call the hotel a few days ahead, give the name on the booking, the date and the planned time of the decoration, and ask who will open the room. Some Paris hotels sell their own romance packages; others let an outside provider set up the decoration.
Set up just before arrival
Fresh rose petals look best when laid shortly before arrival: out of water, they stay soft and bright for a few hours, then start to wilt. Aim to set up one to two hours before you return to the room. At Hanaé, setup takes place in a 30-minute slot between 6pm and 11pm.
Fresh or artificial petals?
Artificial petals do not wilt and can be reused, but they show up close and have no scent. Fresh rose petals have the colour and smell of a real rose: that is what makes the effect when the door opens. For a heart on the bed, draw the outline first, then fill it in.
No flames: LED candles
Most hotels forbid lit candles in rooms, and smoke can set off a detector. LED candles give a warm light with no risk; they are the only ones Hanaé uses.
For a proposal: the pathway and the timing
A petal pathway from the door leads the eye to the bed, where the petal heart and the roses are waiting. Keep the light low, the ring within reach, and keep the other person away from the room until the planned time: dinner, a walk, a drink at the hotel bar. If someone sets up for you, ask for a photo of the finished room before you go back up.
The Proposal package, set up in your hotel roomDo it yourself or have it set up?
Doing it yourself means buying flowers that day, pulling off the petals, carrying everything and getting into the room before the other person, which often spoils the surprise. Having it set up costs more, but you stay with the person you are celebrating while the room is prepared. At Hanaé, hotel room decoration in Paris costs from €179 (petal heart on the bed) to €690 (Proposal package), delivery, setup and photo included.
Hotel room decoration in Paris: packages and pricesTonight? It is still possible
Book before 8pm for setup the same evening, between 6pm and 11pm. From 4pm to 8pm, the 2-hour setup add-on (€49) can help. If you only want a bouquet waiting on arrival, a delivery to the hotel reception is enough.
Send a bouquet to a hotel receptionFor an anniversary: the room and everything else
For an anniversary or a birthday, the decorated room is only part of the surprise: think about what surrounds it. Order champagne from the hotel’s room service so it is chilled at the right time. Prepare a playlist on your phone to start as the door opens. And leave a handwritten card on the bed or next to the roses: a few sincere lines are often what people remember most. At Hanaé, the Birthday package, at €459, brings together a petal heart, 12 red roses and 6 heart-shaped balloons.
