Which flowers to give for New Year’s Eve
There is no official New Year flower, but winter offers beautiful ones. The white anemone with its black centre is graphic and chic, like an evening outfit. White ranunculus, tight and round, make a luminous bouquet. Ivory roses and silvery eucalyptus echo candlelight and glasses. Amaryllis, the December holiday flower, still belongs on a table on the 31st. In France, people kiss under the mistletoe at midnight on New Year’s Eve rather than at Christmas; we do not deliver mistletoe as a bouquet, but a white and green bouquet keeps its spirit.

White, with silvery green, suits every table and reads at once as a winter celebration. It goes with gold or silver decorations without competing with them. Black, burgundy and aubergine make a more dramatic bouquet, for a candlelit dinner. Bright red speaks of love more than of a party: keep it for the midnight bouquet. Avoid pastels, which feel like spring. Our guide to flower colour meanings covers each shade.
Flower colour meaningsGiving flowers to your hosts on 31 December
Arriving with a bouquet just as your hosts serve drinks makes them hunt for a vase and scissors. Have it delivered on the afternoon of the 31st instead, with a card: it is in a vase before you arrive, and you come empty-handed. If you are hosting, a low white bouquet on the table does not block conversation; keep tall bouquets for the hall or a sideboard. The next day, a bouquet delivered on 1 or 2 January is a lovely way to say thank you for the evening.
Flowers to say thank youRed roses for midnight
For a couple, the turn of the year is a moment for declarations. Red roses remain the clearest language, and their number can carry the message: 12 roses for « be mine », 24 for « I think of you every hour », according to the most commonly cited meanings. Have the bouquet delivered in the late afternoon if it should be there for dinner, or schedule it for 1 January so it opens the year.
Number of roses meaningA bouquet for New Year wishes in January
In France, New Year wishes are offered all through January. A bouquet with a « Bonne année » card is a seasonal gift until the 31st: for a grandmother, a neighbour, a friend you did not see over the holidays, or a team back from the break. A short signed line is enough: « Happy New Year, see you very soon. Léa », « May 2027 look like you: beautiful and full of plans. Marc ». At Hanaé, the card is included, up to 400 characters, handwritten.
